I'm at a loss for words to learn today of Gary's passing. I met Gary back in our junior high days and have so many great memories of him. Over the years, I so enjoyed when we touched based with one another to hear of life's happenings. Gary truly loved his family, was thoughtful and caring with friends and had a memorable sense of humor. My heart goes out to Valerie and family - Blessings to all.
I first got to know Gary growing up in MD in the 1960s. On the baseball diamond, he was our hero, always coming through in the clutch. But he excelled off the field, too. And his talent and humor made him a dear friend to all who were lucky enough to know him. I am terribly sorry to hear of this loss. Thinking of the family and wishing you all grace and peace.
Gary and I met in 1997 working at Nationsbank and he took me under his wing. I learned a lot over the 2 years we worked together. Three things that I always remembered about him was his love for his family (he always talked about his boys), his great sense of humor, and not to take life too seriously. A period of 7 or 8 years went by before he joined Wells Fargo Advisors and we reconnected and I would see him every 6 months or so and the same things came through AND I always felt like no time had passed since the last time, regardless of whether it was months or years. He was a friend to me and I'm proud to say I knew him. To his family, I'm sorry for your loss and I'll pray for you. I know he probably has the angels in heaven cracking up with his jokes.
To the many nice tributes to Gary so far I would only like to add that I agree. He was a great guy, a wonderful friend and someone who made my life better by knowing him. Our sports connection began working together at Irving Sport Shops and continued through the years. I will never forget fishing in the backyard canal in Davie, FL and landing the whopper catfish on the bamboo pole. Love and peace to the Havas family at this difficult time. May God bless you all.
Gary and I worked together while at Wells Fargo Advisors. He was a great colleague and wonderful friend. You could always count on him to give his honest opinion and to deliver on various projects. He was a straight shooter and you were never confused on where he landed on an issue. I will miss his ability to always make me and other colleagues laugh. I always told him he had a second career doing comedy. I pray he is doing standup routine in heaven.

Gary was simply a great guy! He and I first met at NationsBank in Charlotte in the mid-nineties. We worked there together on a number of projects as we integrated a number of different broker/dealers from acquired institutions: Boatmen's, Barnett and Bank of America come to mind. It has been a special treat to work with him again at Wells Fargo Advisors these last few years. He was a terrific colleague and could always be counted on to get things done the right way, on schedule. Even more important was his wonderful sense of humor...everyone around him was the better for it....laughing and at ease with the situation....and each other. Also, Gary could always be counted on to pull for his beloved Maryland Terrapins!
My prayers go out to Valerie and the family. Heaven just got better.....
Gary was a wonderful person and a pleasure to work with! He will truly be missed by all that knew him. Heaven definitely gained another angel! Praying for his family as you certainly lost a treasure.
I am very sorry to learn of Gary's passing. We were good friends though college, then kind of lost touch when we started our careers. My condolences to the family; rest assured that all of you will be in my thoughts and prayers. I know he will be missed.
