I was looking for Steve for the past few month as I lost all contacts with him. His mobile was cut and he has not been answering my emails. I was worried about him. Just today, I knew about his death though searching for him in google.

I feel so sad.

I met Steve in 1991 when I arrived to Charlotte from Kuwait to study at UNCC. He was a Bank manager at First Union Bank. He was very supportive to me. We became friends and our friendship continued even though I went back to Kuwait in 1995. Since then, I visited him many time and we kept our communications through emails or mobile until I lost contact with him in November 2020.

My Deepest condolences to the family and many friends of Steve. I will never forget his smile. Rest In Peace my fiend. Abdul Alshamari - Kuwait.

As a former colleague and lending partner with Steve at First Charter, I got to see how genuine and kind he was. What made him stand out was his intentional effort to remember the little things (the special things) about people he met. Months or years could go by, and you might get a call or your paths would cross, and he would great you with a big smile and tease you about something dear to you or something he knew would lift you up because he remembers how important something meant to you. I was surprised and saddened to learn of Steve's "departure". Even as a young boy, he was kind, polite, respectful and very honoring to his parents and friends. I witnessed this firsthand, as I was his babysitter, in Rennerdale, PA!.The Bible talks of a "good name" being more valuable than silver or gold. I was drawn to Steve in a large meeting and immediately went to him, asking him to join our small men's group. His passion, enthusiasm, big smiles and big hugs were infectious. Many were drawn to Steve. We will all miss him. Steve was integral to my life for a season. That season shaped my spiritual life forever. Steve’s vulnerability, expressions of emotion and encouragement gave our small group life. Small group meetings, Promise Keeper trips, Walk to Emmaus, church worship and home worship with Steve, bring back precious memories. They also brought me closer to God. In other seasons, Steve struggled and faced life trials, but he always returned to Father. And now he is with Father in a way we can only imagine. Thank you and bless you Brother.

I met Steve 25 years ago at First Baptist Huntersville. He was part of a men's group that was so special, we still met for meals all these years later. It is just incredible to realize Steve has gone on to his eternal reward so soon. As many others have shared, he lit up a room and had such a positive impact anywhere he was. I remember when my wife and I were adopting our daughter, Steve was so excited for us in large measure because he had been adopted and he knew first hand the impact that has on the lives of the newly expanded family. I will always cherish my friendship with Steve and look forward to seeing him in heaven one day soon. Love ya brother!

Steve and my husband Jim spent many years in a men’s small group. Christian accountability. We need more of that these difficult days. Steve sponsored us on The Walk to Emmaus, which remains a spiritual milestone in both our lives. I will be forever grateful for this experience and that Steve knew its significance would sustain us on this journey we call life. Much love to his family in their loss.

I had coffee with Steve only once, but he had a profound effect on me. He was a loving father and husband, and popular member of the mortgage community.
