My condolences to Virginia's family. I worked with her for many years at the Observer, where she was a stalwart on the Metro desk, handling phone messages with aplomb, smart as a whip about when to alert someone to a caller and when to simply listen sympathetically, expert at knowing who among the many-moving-parts newsroom staff needed to know what. And she was delightful to work with. Your loss is felt widely, throughout the journalism community.
