Albert Franklin Batts, 69, of Davidson died April 2, 2022. He was born on August 16, 1952 in Asheville to the late Walter and Juanita Batts. Al grew up outside Asheville in Candler, NC and went to Enka High School were he played football and graduated in 1970. He then went to NCSU and graduated in 1974 in Nuclear Engineering and then graduated again in 1975 in Electrical engineering. In 1974 he married his High School sweetheart, Martha Cody. After a few years working in the oil industry in Louisiana, he came back to North Carolina to work at Duke Power (now Duke Energy). He later earned his masters degree in Electrical Engineering from University of South Carolina. He retired in 2010 but after a year went back to Duke Energy as a contractor. He worked at least part time until early 2020. Al enjoyed making beer / building guitars / gardening / rebuilding classic cars / and he loved music and being with friends and family. His most recent car rebuild is a 1966 Corvette. Survivors include wife Martha Cody Batts; Son: Al Batts, Jr. and wife Sarah Lippincott and grandson Grayson Alexander Batts; Son: Justin Cody Batts and wife Jordie Shaw and grandson Archie Lewis Batts. Brother: Walter Teachey Batts, Jr. and wife Peggy Behen and his son Timothy Raynor Batts and wife Courtney Zimmerman and children Charley and Hayden. Memorials may be made to Lake Norman Baptist Church: 7921 Sam Furr Rd Huntersville, NC 28078 A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Wednesday, April 6 at James Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1-3 prior. Burial will be private at Northlake Memorial Gardens.
