    Billy Turpin

    August 17, 1931 - July 8, 2021

Billy Allen Turpin, 89, of Stanley, NC died July 8, 2021. He was born August 17, 1931 in Easley, SC to the late Frank and Eva Turpin. Billy was a proud U.S. Army veteran. Billy retired from Duke Power Company after 30 years service in the Substation and Transmission Line Divisions. While residing in Cowans Ford, Billy and Jane faithfully attended Westport Baptist Church. While living in Charlotte, Billy was a deacon at Durham Memorial Baptist Church where he and Pat served God and made lifelong friends. As a charter member of Cowans Ford Country Club, Billy became an avid golfer and chose to walk all 18 holes most times. Listening to music was a favorite pastime, with a little singing and toe tapping to classic country, gospel, and time-honored hymns. Family gatherings of old and new and especially at Christmas were some of Billy's most cherished memories. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild fellowshipping together at any occasion. Billy graduated from Clemson A & M College in 1953 with an Electrical Engineering Degree. To date, two more generations of Clemson graduates followed in his footsteps. Without a doubt he was a die hard Clemson Tiger Fan. Most of all, Billy loved his family, was a man of honor and integrity, and always extended a helping hand with an open heart.  Survivors include his wife Jane Vanderburg Turpin; sons, Paul (Robin) of Sherrills Ford, NC, John (Sandra) of Pittsburgh, PA and Joel (Lori) of Clemson, SC; daughter, Dana Blankenship (Ben) of Charlotte, NC; Beth Vanderburg Middleton (Rob). 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  Predeased by wife, Patricia Drennon Turpin and brother, Tony. Memorials may be made to Westport Baptist Church, Denver, NC . Visitation will be at 12 noon with a memorial service beginning at 1:00pm on Monday, July 12th at James Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC. A family graveside burial service will follow at Forest Lawn West in Charlotte, NC. James Funeral Home is serving the family.
