    Domenic "Dom" Polzella

    December 4, 1936 - March 29, 2022

Domenic "Pop" Polzella, 85, of Huntersville, NC died March 29, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 4, 1936 in Waterbury, CT to the late Domenicoangelo and Fedele Polzella. He was raised in Waterbury CT and moved to Syracuse NY in 1968. He advanced his career in the Insurance business, eventually becoming Regional Vice President of Royal Life Insurance Company of New York. He was a beloved Coach of youth sports and actively participated in all aspects of his family’s lives. He and Barb loved to travel all over the world and embraced life and people everywhere they went. Dom retired in 1998 and moved to Charlotte NC that December. He enjoyed retirement with his family, working at his son Dom’s banquet facility, playing rounds of golf with friends and volunteering at St. Mark Catholic Church as an Usher and in several Ministries. He participated in Men’s Bible Study, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a mentor for many. Dom’s greatest joy was his Family. He raised them with Faith, Positivity, Wisdom, and an incredible sense of Humor. He was an engaging conversationalist whether it be a joke, a story, sharing his common-sense wisdom, or giving advice (sometimes unsolicited!). Dom was a giant of a man with his humility, kindness and gentle nature. He was always welcoming and made everyone feel like family, inviting them to the “Italian Table” (prepared by Barb aka Noni), which was always full of food, laughter and love. Dom was a true inspiration to so many people. Dom is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Barb; daughter Debra Abert (Lee Hall), sons Domenic Polzella, and David Polzella (Leigh); all of Huntersville. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Kristen Corfield (Chris), Jason Abert (Ashley), Alexa Polzella, and Emily Polzella as well as 5 great-grandchildren: Nathan, Kailyn, Jaxon, Sebastian and Levi. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 31 at St. Mark Catholic Church Huntersville NC. The Visitation will be at 2 pm in the Narthex of the church and Mass at 3 pm. The committal service will follow at Northlake Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Charlotte. https://www.hpccr.org/donate James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
