Dorothy Malczewski
April 18, 1929 - May 5, 2022
Dorothy Mae Malczewski (93) was born to the late Swedish immigrants, Eric and Lydia Dahlberg in Chicago, IL on April 18, 1929, and followed the Lord Jesus home on May 5, 2022. Dorothy was a lifetime Chicagoland resident, having graduated from Austin High School in 1946 and eventually settling in Westchester where she loved organizing garage sales and BBQs with her neighbors. She was an active member of the community for 68 years – raising her four children there and working at Wallace Press until she was 75 years old. Dorothy loved being connected to the community and cherished the crafting and other volunteer work that she and her wonderful friends at the Westchester Community Church have been involved in over the years. She never missed an opportunity to donate blood at the Community Center. Roller skating at The Elm Roller Rink was a favorite activity for her and her children grooving to the fabulous music of Tony Tallman on the organ. She was also very passionate about Chicago sports teams and many an afternoon and night were spent watching the Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks, and Bulls! A lifelong highlight was getting to see her beloved Cubs win the World Series. Dorothy was an avid traveler and loved going on adventures with her family. She particularly loved going to watch live theatre and especially travelling with the kids and grandchildren to Disney – she saved up her money and took the family to Walt Disney World the very first year it was open and never got tired of going back. Dorothy took every chance she could to watch her grandkids play sports, dance, and perform music recitals. She loved 4th of July fireworks, collecting Beanie Babies, camping, enjoying sweet tea, Krispy Kreme, vanilla lattes and sweet corn from The Farm. She was always in search for the best pizza and fish fry! One of her favorite places to visit was the Good Templar Park in Geneva, IL where she could spot a four-leaf clover from a mile away! Beloved Mother and Grandmother, Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Elise Rowe, Amy Montanus and husband, Andrew and Abigail and Amelia Montanus (grandchildren) and son, Lance Malczewski and wife, Lori and Melanie Malczewski (grandchild) and the late daughter and son in law, Suzanne and Chuck Stitzel. Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the compassionate care that was given by Residential Hospice in Illinois, Community Home Care and Hospice in North Carolina. A Remembrance Service will be held at the Westchester Community Church, Rev Joseph Mills (Pastor Joe) officiating on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 10am. In Lieu of flowers, if desired, friends may make memorial contributions to the Westchester Community Church, 1840 Westchester Blvd. Westchester, IL 60154 James Funeral Home, of Huntersville, is serving the family and obituary lovingly written by the family.
