Glenn Hamby
February 7, 1940 - November 23, 2021
Glenn C. Hamby, 81, of Charlotte died November 23, 2021. He was born on February 7, 1940 in Burke County to the late George and Ethel Hamby. Glenn went by many names; Husband, Daddy, Paw. He was a kind, gentle man who never had a bad word for anyone. He was a daily Bible reader and lived by the Word. He loved anything to do with cars, music and being outdoors. He loved playing the guitar and singing. His children and grandchildren were raised with a love of music because of him. He could always be found tinkering with an engine or fixing something broken. He loved the Smokey Mountains and would find a hill to climb whenever he could as long as he could. He loved to camp and being on the water. His greatest joy was his family. He taught us all life lessons that would carry us through our lives and make us strong. Some of his fondest memories outside of his immediate family were times spent running with his siblings and cousins as children. His stories are priceless! He will be greatly missed by all that know him. Glenn served proudly in the US Navy from July, 1958 to May, 1962. He worked as a welder with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System until his retirement in 1998. Survivors include the love of his life for 63 years, wife Betty; daughter, Denise Bradshaw and husband Don of Charlotte; son, Buddy and wife Marlo of Charlotte; 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. A Graveside service will be held at 4 PM Saturday, November 27 at Northlake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:30-3:30 prior at James Funeral Home. The family requests in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your favorite charity or plant a tree.
