James Murvyn Washam

James Murvyn Washam, 84, of Cornelius died January 26, 2022. He was born on September 8, 1937, in Iredell County to the late John V. Washam Sr. and Nannie Velna Washam. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, he started his career with the City Of Charlotte Fire Department retiring as Captain. He was a member of the American Legion Post 86. He was also an active member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. After retiring Murvyn enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, racing, and spending time with his family. He also spent many years traveling around with the gospel group Witness. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Billy Potts Washam and brother John V. Washam Jr. Survivors include his wife Peggy; daughter Gwen Sullivan (John) of Mooresville; son, Jeff Washam (Tonya) of Statesville; siblings; Jackie Burris, Avonne Goodson and Brenda Rhodes; grandchildren, Jason Penninger, Jordon Penninger, Samantha Allen; great-grandchildren, Raegan, Makaela and Braeley Memorials may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, February 5, at Bethel Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
