December 20, 1943 - August 30, 2021
Jean Edwards Webb, 77, of Charlotte died August 30, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on December 20, 1943 in Albemarle, NC, to the late Hubert Edwards and Geneva Lee Edwards. Jean graduated from Anson High School in 1962 where her favorite subject was Home Economics. In 1965, she married the love of her life, James Alfred Webb. Soon after, she began to excel in all things home related: cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, childcare, and the daily tasks of running an efficient and loving household for her husband and two children. For many years Jean enjoyed her own catering business, where she prepared beautiful, delicious birthday and wedding cakes, along with many other favorite finger foods. During this same time she offered childcare in her home where she loved all the little ones as if they were her own. Once her own children were older, Jean began working outside the home and spent many years employed with Harris Teeter in the deli-bakery. From there she moved on to Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, advancing to the position of Cafeteria Manager before retiring in 2007 to take care of her husband, Alfred. Jean was a faithful member of Independence Hill Baptist Church where she devoted many loving hours preparing Wednesday night meals, offering refreshments and meals to the Hearts and Hammers Mission Group, chaperoning youth events, and later, serving as a Deacon to the members. More recently she became involved with her all-time favorite mission, Wrapped In Love, a prayer ministry that crochets and knits beautiful shawls for those in the community who need hope, joy, peace, and love. During her time in this ministry, Jean crocheted 144 shawls along with countless items for church bazaars. Above all these projects that she served in so faithfully, Jean devoted herself to her family, forever putting them ahead of herself. Her mission in life was to love Jesus, love others, give big hugs, and always look at the bright side. Jean's sense of optimism never waivered, even to the end, and she was always ready to share her positivity with those around her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, James Alfred Webb; and brothers Leon Edwards and Don Edwards. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Jimmy Webb and significant-other Robin Parks of Kannapolis; daughter, Deanna Prevette and husband Sean of Statesville; grandson, D.J. Webb; granddaughter, Dylan Prevette; and siblings, Vivian Talbert, Miriam Evans, and Benjy Edwards and wife Teresa. Other surviving family members include brother-in-law Riley Webb and wife Frances; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Independence Hill Baptist Church, 10220 Independence Hill Rd, Huntersville, NC 28078; or Novant Hospice and Palliative Care, 200 Hawthorne Ln, Charlotte, NC 28204. The service to celebrate her life will be held in the Worship Center at Independence Hill Baptist Church on Thursday, September 2 at 11 AM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will follow in the fellowship hall. Rev. Todd Marlin will officiate the service. James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
