    Joan Kratchman

    September 19, 1934 - May 7, 2022

Joan Sullivan Kratchman, 87, of Mooresville, North Carolina took her last precious earthly breath on Saturday, May 7, 2022. She passed peacefully at the home of her eldest daughter, Loretta (and husband Jim), while holding hands, she was gathered into the arms of Jesus. Joan is predeceased by her husband Robert Michael Kratchman (Bob) of 67 years. Joan was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and in 1955, she married her life partner Bob. She resided in Bergen County, New Jersey. She was an active member at St. Elizabeth's Parish in Wyckoff, New Jersey, St. Theresa's Parish in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, and St. Therese Parish in Mooresville, North Carolina. She had a fruitful career as a secretary at George Washington Elementary School in Mahwah, NJ for 28 years. Joan’s favorite place was the beach. She spent countless summers on Long Beach Island, New Jersey, which she loved! And in the winter months, she and Bob fled the cold to their 2nd home in Naples, Florida. In 2011 Joan and Bob moved to Mooresville, North Carolina where she enjoyed family and close friends. She met a lovely group of women at the St. Therese newcomers’ group that became her dear friends. She was an avid reader and relished the simplicity of her retired life. To those that knew and loved her, she was known as “The Duchess” a role she embraced wholeheartedly! She lived an extraordinary life filled with love and abundant blessings. Her greatest joy was her family. Joan is survived by her 4 children, Robert Kratchman married to Susan, Kenneth Kratchman married to Yvonne, Loretta Tuit married to James, and Nancy White married to Randy; 9 grandchildren, Kathleen married to John Ward, Heather married to Riley Delaney, Holly married to Jason Romanelli, Rebecca married to Ethan Brown, Kenneth, Brandon, Rachel, Dana, and Madison; and 3 great grandchildren, Abigail, Erin and Novella. Joan is predeceased by her sister’s Alicia Sullivan Attardo, Mary Ida Sullivan Correia, Margaret Sullivan O’Brien, and survived by Lucille Sullivan Evans, many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Family and friends will honor Joan’s life with a funeral mass to be held on a later date. A private celebration of life will follow. Details will be posted on the funeral home website once set.
