John William Wilkie, 88, of Charlotte (formerly of Davidson, NC) died December 11, 2021 at his home. He was born on August 31, 1933 in Luzerne Township, PA to the late John and Ida Belle Wilkie. John's career in education started at Thornhill School for Boys in Pennsylvania where he taught for five years. He then spent the next thirty years as a teacher and administrator at Chartiers Valley School District in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After moving to Davidson, North Carolina, he played a vital role in the formation of Southlake Christian School serving on the school board, working as a substitute teacher, and volunteering for athletic events. He was an active deacon at Southlake Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed serving those in need. Survivors include his loving wife Ginger Wilkie; sons, John W. Wilkie, Jr. (Bonnie) of Charlotte, Phil Wilkie (Alison) of Pittsburgh, PA and Mark Wilkie (Lisa) of Tampa, FL; siblings, Judy Tylka, and Tonya Kreinbook (Wayne); 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Lane. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. A service to celebrate his life will be held January 15, 2022 at 11 a.m. at James Funeral Home in Huntersville with Rev. Adam Mumpower officiating. Visitation will follow. The Celebration of Life will be casual and everyone is welcome to wear black and gold, Steeler colors— Jerseys and T-shirts will be appropriate.
