Katherine Ballard

Katherine Nell Smith Ballard, 52, of Cornelius died March 8, 2022. She was born on August 6, 1969 in Cumberland County, NC to Carolyn Massengill Smith and the late Robert Thomas Smith Sr. Katherine was a talented hair stylist that loved her work and the customers that she served. She had a quirky sense of humor and a sharp wit, was quick to laugh out loud and share a smile with everyone. She was devoted to her children, family and friends with a selfless willingness to go out of her way to help any who needed her time. Her ability to keep caring was a gift. While her heart failed her in the end, it never failed us. In addition to her mother, survivors include her son Cooper Harding Ballard; daughter, Caroline Rae Ballard; siblings, Carol Love, Elizabeth Randall, and Tom Smith. Her immediate family didn't stop with mother, siblings and children, it extended to all of the spouses and abundance of nieces and nephews that she loved with equal measure. Memorials may be made to Lake Norman Christion School with Thrive Annual Fund in the memo The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 15 at Christ Community Church in Huntersville. Visitation will be 10:00 AM prior. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery in Cornelius. James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
