Kay-Marie Slaughter

Kay-Marie “Kate” Slaughter, 66, of Charlotte, NC, died of cardiovascular disease Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord, NC. She was born November 12, 1955, in Clarksburg, WV. She was the daughter of Paul Edward Slaughter and Leah Audelle Rhyner Slaughter. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from Glenville State College in Glenville, WV, in 1977. In 1980, She earned her certification as a National Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic from Fairmont State College in Fairmont, WV, and served as a volunteer paramedic at the Marion County Rescue Squad in Fairmont from 1980 to 1985. She was one of the first six women paramedics in the state. From 1987-1993, she was the systems administrator for Electronic Industries Association Consumer Electronics Shows in Washington, DC. She continued her 30-year career as a senior UNIX systems administrator at such corporations as Unisys, Mitre, and Verizon. She was employed at Wells Fargo for the past 17 years. Her passion was photography. She was an accomplished photographer who specialized in wildlife and pet photography and location portraiture. She also loved all forms of fibre arts, especially sewing. She was loving, caring, and generous to anyone who crossed her path. She was a life-long Christian, and a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister, Paula Jean Slaughter of Charlotte, NC. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. James Funeral Home, of Huntersville, is serving the family and obituary lovingly written by the family.
