Mary Houser
February 27, 1928 - June 28, 2020
“She will be called blessed, held above every other; blessed is the woman who turns to God in praise.” based on Proverbs 31 Huntersville--Mary Ellen Mock Houser is today in the presence of the Lord. She was 92 years on this earth impacting the lives of everyone with whom she came in contact. There was never a time that she put herself above the needs of others. Strong in her faith, she lived as she believed. We are blessed that God, in His extraordinary mercy, placed Mary in our midst. We shall forever be grateful. The beloved wife of the late Joe Neill Houser, they will celebrate together their 70th Anniversary on September 2nd. A perfect mother to Danny and Robin, they and their spouses, Ruthy and Brad survive. She adored her grandson, Daniel Houser and wife Taylor who gave her great-granddaughters, Avery and Olivia. Surviving as well are her two “eldest” daughters, Pam Rogers and Kathy Godley. She was truly their other Mother. Mary was born to Ruthie and Roy Lee Mock on February 27, 1928. Her parents and sisters, Elizabeth Herring, Delores Hood and Rose Waugh predeceased her. Juanita Harris and Willie Daniels remain from this loving family of six girls. Many beloved nieces and nephews survive. The consummate and gracious hostess, Mary fed folks far and wide. She was the first to arrive with a basket at the home of a grieving family, church suppers and picnics. She was forever the hostess for every bridal and baby shower and known as the “Cake Lady”. Mary Houser baked and adorned the most extraordinary cakes for brides, anniversary couples, birthdays and communion bread for over forty years and gave lessons on her art. Her culinary perfection and expertise was without equal. Feeding our physical bodies was her talent and passion but her greatest gift to us that will remain forever was her service to and love for her Savior. She taught the adult Sunday School class at Gilead for years. Mary was the Bible Study master in the work of the Women of Gilead and held every office. Her beautiful soprano voice graced the choir and her work with the church children was tireless. Generations have been mentored and loved by her and she was the perfect role model and mentor. She never spoke ill of another and no unkind word was ever uttered. She will be remembered for her holiness and servant’s heart. Having known and loved Mary Mock Houser has been a gift straight from the Father’s heart to each of us. To God be the glory, forever and ever. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a future date. If you would like to make a contribution in her memory, she was a stalwart in the Women’s Ministry of Gilead ARP Church, 15303 Beatties Ford Road, Huntersville, NC 28078. A private family graveside will be held at Gilead ARP on June 30. James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
