October 1, 1928 - March 18, 2021
Davidson- Mildred Louise Jones Nelson was born in Marion, NC on October 1, 1928, and after a very full and rewarding life Mildred left this life on March 18, 2021 at the age of 92. Mildred was the oldest daughter of L.V and Emma Lou Jones, and she and her sister, Margaret Jones Carter, were raised in several different locations throughout North Carolina. The family settled in Charlotte, and Mildred graduated from Charlotte Technical High School in 1946 and maintained and enjoyed lifelong friendships with many of her classmates. On August 28, 1949 Mildred was married to John David Nelson at Allen Street Baptist Church in North Charlotte. Pete, as he was more commonly known, and Mildred established their household, started their family and lived in the Villa Heights neighborhood until the mid-1960s. During that time, they welcomed their children who will carry on Mildred’s legacy (daughter Lynn Harriman and her husband Harry Harriman of Huntersville, their oldest son David and his wife Julie who live in Davidson and younger son Ric and his wife Lisa who also live in Huntersville). Known as Mama to many of her extended family, friends and acquaintances, she was loved by many but not more so than by her six grandchildren (Alicia (and husband Harry Bishop), Leslie Nelson, Brittany (and husband Ryan Jones), Jeffrey Nelson, Cassidy Nelson and J T Nelson) and four great-grandchildren (Jake Bishop, Addie Bishop, Meredith Jones and Genevieve Jones). Mildred was originally a stay-at-home mom, but once all her children were in school she went to work for Dun & Bradstreet where she retired. Mildred was always a very active and loyal Christian witness and attended several different Charlotte area Baptist churches including Commonwealth Baptist, First Baptist of Charlotte, First Baptist of Huntersville and most recently University Hills Baptist. She made many long-time friends at all these, and she truly cherished those friendships. Consistent to her faith, Mildred was a quiet, yet energetic worker who was quick to lend a hand and always was faithful to visit and care for those in need. Most recently, Mildred lived at the Williams Place residential community in Davidson, where again she went about making good friends and caring for others. A visitation and remembrance will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers we request you make a memorial contribution to University Hills Baptist Church or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County. James Funeral Home is assisting the family.
