Steve Washam
June 6, 1952 - February 5, 2022
Fred Steven "Steve" Washam, 69 of Concord, died February 5, 2022. He was born on June 6, 1952 in Iredell County to the late Joseph and Pauline Washam. Survivors include his wife Ramona Jolly Washam; daughters, Michelle Wallace (Eric) of Concord and Toni Little (Eric) of Mint Hill; step-daughters, Shannon Little (Eric) of Rock Hill and Sheila Hilton (Dowd) of Mt. Holly; siblings, Roy (Betsy) and Beverly; and 10 grandchildren. His brother Bob preceded him in death. Needless to say, our hearts are breaking but we take comfort in knowing that Steve knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and that we'll see him again and spend eternity together with him in heaven one day. Steve told everyone that would listen about his love for Jesus Christ. We know that he is rejoicing in heaven with his mama, daddy, brother Bob, and many others who have gone before him. Steve never met a stranger and was a dear friend and role model to so many people over his short 69 1/2 years. He loved to teach people about fishing, hunting (quail, duck, rabbit, deer, squirrel), shooting (he loved to skeet shoot), machining (he was a diesel machinist by trade for 50 years) . . . people came from near and far to see if he could "fix" their broken/worn out stuff and, 9 times out of 10, he could!!!!! He loved working with his hands and people were amazed at how he could make their broken worn out piece of metal look like it had never been broken. Steve was the most gifted, talented, smartest person that I've ever known next to his dad!!! Who do you know that could build a 21' 6" boat without a boat plan (instructions)?!?! The "plan" was in his head!!!! He was probably only a few hours from finishing his boat and then he was going to start modifying a trailer to haul it on. Oh how Steve loved to watch things grow. He had the biggest green thumb ever!!!! He grew way more than we could ever eat, can or freeze. He loved giving the fruits of his labor away for others to enjoy. We want to thank you all so very much for your thoughts, prayers, outpouring of love and support over the past month and also in the days, weeks, months and years that lie ahead. The funeral service will be 2 PM Sunday, February 13 at James Funeral Home. Visitation will be 12-2 prior to the service. Burial will follow at Bethel Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Metrolina Church. https://www.metrolinachurch.org James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
