Ted Louis Mungin passed away peacefully at home on January 24, 2014. Ted was born on March 23, 1946 in Hollywood, South Carolina. He was the second child born to Horace Mungin, Sr and Margaret Mungin. Ted, his mother and siblings Read Obituary

You were a dear friend and I will always remember as you took me under your wing as a junior sales guy at sprint and helped me to grow in my Career.

And A Mountain to Conquer
For Ted
When my brother told me that he had
An incurably intestinal cancer
I threw myself to the sofa in a position
Of submission, I couldn’t stop crying
For two days and for days afterwards I remained
A nanosecond from the floods
But it was the anguish and the desire to
Undo what already is, that was most debilitating
All the worse the cancer is hereditary
From an absentee father who gave us nothing
But his family mutating DNA then left us alone
My brother is courageous and sharp and
Is married to a woman who is sharp and
Courageous together they are unbeatable
They had been mutually supporting
Each other and their children successfully
For 40 years when the family DNA set in
There have been other battles but this
Would be their biggest mêlée ever as
The set-backs mound to wear the spirit down
So with the precision of a military strategist
They defined the problem Developed the goal
And the means to it and implemented the program
Stage by stage they knew where they were headed
And the obstacles they would encounter
Then on May 13 his weight stabilized and
Even a slight rebound but May is not a month
For good news and near its end my brother’s
Son is found to have a tumor in his head
The size of an egg the cosmos is piling on
One by one these impediments come
Acknowledge them you must
Give then their due then
Well them out of existence
And my brother
He planned his hike up Mt. Kilimanjaro.
So I brought him a book of the many
Trails up this magnificent mountain
It was not to be and it turned out
That he would not need that guide book
For the mountain he would claim.
Ted and Gerri were personal training clients of my fiance, Shabaka Amen. We met them when I was pregnant back in October of 2011 at a Health Fair hosted by the African American Cultural Center in Charlotte. They attended our babyshower in January of 2012 and were so happy for us and encouraging. When our son Shabaka Jr was about 5 months old they came over for a visit and I could see the joy on their faces as they met him for the first time. They also attended our son's first birthday party last year and I believe they had more fun than any of the other guests. At the party, my father really took a liking to Ted which means alot because my dad has very few people he opens up to. We had the pleasure of visiting with them this past summer and although it was our last time seeing Ted physically we still feel his spirit now. Ted we admire you and Geraldine so much. Thank you for your support and love. Because we witnessed the strong love you have for each other, it makes us committ to be better partners to one another. You are very much missed. Shabaka and I will be sure to keep in contact and be there for your beautiful wife.
I remember photographing my first wedding here in NC with Ted and Sharnece. What a passion he had for photography.
I am deeply saddened by the news of his passing. May his memory help your family find peace and may the sorrow you feel in your hearts today be lightened by the love that surrounds you.

Uncle Ted was dearly loved by my family in South Africa. When they met Uncle Ted 11 years ago it was like we'd been family all our lives! Uncle Ted's love for walking made him an instant buddy to my dad who was known for his eternal "strolls". Uncle Ted and Aunty Deanie showed us what enduring love looked like and they were stalwart supporters of my own marriage; always checking in on us, always encouraging us.
We miss him deeply and not an hour goes by since his passing that I don't stop and think about him. I can gratefully say that all my memories are great ones of Uncle Ted enjoying his life. It's hard to process that he's actually gone and we will truly understand what he meant to all of us in the days to come.
