I became friends with George after he came to Lowes, and we stayed in touch after he retired. He is the only person I know who would text me and ask if I had time to take a phone call from him! I can't remember a time when I didn't have time, and when I didn't enjoy time talking with someone more than I did with George. Yes, we talked a lot of politics, but we also both had roots in Western North Carolina and shared a love for it, although he was from "west of the Balsams" and I was not. I will truly miss the times we talked and laughed together, whether it was in person or on the phone. George was a wonderful man who gave much more than he took in this world. I am very sorry I didn't know about his passing and the service, or you can bet I would have been there wearing my seersucker suit, even though my midwestern wife hid it from me somewhere years ago.
