George Gray Cunningham's Obituary
George Gray Cunningham, 71, of Davidson, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023, at his home. He was born on July 15, 1951, in Franklin, NC.
George was a seasoned attorney, with 47 years of experience, certified in Family Law, but practiced in many fields. He was retired from Lowe’s Companies Inc. as Vice President and Associate General Counsel. After retirement, he was Of Counsel with the McIntosh Law Firm in Davidson, NC.
During his career, George was the Chairman of the Board of Elections for Wilkes County, the Attorney for Wilkes County, Chair of the NC Property Tax Commission, Chair of the NC Gaming Commission, a 32nd degree Mason, permanent member of the US Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, member of the Sons of the American Revolution, and a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church.
George never met a stranger! He was an amazing conversationalist and had a keen sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, John Frederick Cunningham and Betty Sue Gray Cunningham, George is predeceased in death by his wife, Christine B. Cunningham. He is survived by his loving daughter, Elizabeth Gray Cunningham; his brother, Milton Phillip Cunningham; and sister-in-law, Ann Cunningham.
George had many friends, including Gaither M. Keener and David A. Wijewickrama, along with many others too numerous to name.
The memorial service will be held Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 2:00 pm at James Funeral Home of Huntersville, NC. The family will receive friends after the memorial service. You are invited to come in bright colors or seersucker in celebration of George.
