First and foremost, my deepest sympathies to the family and close friends of Alan. I only knew him a short period before he was on leave from the hospital. I was a student at the time doing my clinicals at CMC. He was such a joy who was honestly more excited for us to be there than we were. He was accommodating, patient, and loved sharing his knowledge with us.
Funnily enough, I'm from Michigan and am a Wolverine through and through. When I first met him he was sporting his OSU Buckeyes scrub cap and I just knew we'd have a friendly rivalry on our hands.
Although it wasn't long before he was out on leave after I started, I never missed an opportunity to give him a playful jab. Those lighthearted moments turned into some of my favorite memories with him. What stood out most was the laughter and warmth behind the rivalry; the way he could make everyone around him smile. He’ll be deeply missed, but I’ll always cherish those fun exchanges and the kindness he carried with him every day.
