Dr. Alan Walter Steiss was my academic advisor, my mentor, and the most treasured friend I have ever had. Words can never convey the full impact that this amazing scholar, educator, administrator, and extraordinary human being made on my life for 50 years. We made memories together at Blacksburg; at Virginia Tech; in his home with his late wife, Pat; on phone chats and with text messages; and during our hour long video conference chats where we exchanged thoughts, experiences, laughter, and memories, along with the pleasure of staged virtual concerts for his viewing enjoyment. He was my academic advisor, my career counselor, my professional consultant, and my most dependable and reliable pillar of strength whenever I needed guidance and good counsel. Dr. Steiss.
