Alexander Durant Simpson's Obituary
Alexander Durant Simpson ("Alec" “AD”), 94, of Huntersville died on January 30, 2020.
AD was born on November 24, 1925 to Rosser ("Bud") and Lillian Abernathy Simpson and was a long time member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church and WWII veteran.
After high school AD was drafted into the Army. At 18, he sailed by the Rock of Gibraltar to fight with the 100th Infantry 397th Reg. 3rd Bat. Comp. M. A news article at the time recognized AD’s regiment for playing an important role in running the Germans out of France. “Fighting thousands of Nazis in the cold, they faced innumerable landmines and booby-traps in ankle-deep mud.” By the grace of God, AD survived when many in his unit did not.
After the war, AD built a house in Huntersville for his beloved mother with his savings. This became his home for the decades that followed. AD was quiet, peaceful and kind. After retiring from Lookabill Optical Labs, collecting tractors was his hobby. He enjoyed tinkering with parts and repairs. When his buddy Joe Blythe was alive, they enjoyed many dinners at the fish camp and lots of good times.
Alec is predeceased by his brother and sisters, Robert Simpson, Dolores Blythe, Barbara McQueen and Phyllis Mozeley.
“Uncle AD” is survived by 4 generations of nieces and nephews who have many fond memories.
A graveside service will be held on Monday February 3rd 2:00pm at Hopewell Presbyterian Church with reception to follow.
Memorial contributions to the church are appreciated.
