Alexandra Schaney's Obituary
Alexandra Kaye Schaney (1999 - 2020) of Kannapolis, NC
On the early morning of Sunday November 8, 2020, holding her mother and fathers hands one last time, Alexandra gained her wings.
She was born in Charlotte, NC on December 17, to Clint and Kelly Schaney. From the Alpha to the Omega Alexandra lived. Her life was cut very short after a 16 year, 6 month and 14 day battle with neuroblastoma, and that’s only the very small part of who she was. She knew she could die, we all do, but very few of us really live... She really lived. Deciding she was in charge, not cancer was always her strategy. Along her journey, she had to endure grueling events, but with her family by her side, she charged the mountain. Those that were lucky to meet her, would never even know the pain she was enduring because that was not her focus at all, it was to live and do everything on Alexandra’s terms. She accomplished that by focusing on others even early on. She raised funds for her hospital buy organizing yard sales so the money could go to buy new games and toys for kids like her. Alexandra wanted to make this place just a little nicer and through showing kindness to everybody was her way. She developed a love for theatre, acting and singing. Put a microphone or script in her hand and she was on cloud 9. Alexandra attended St Mark Catholic grade school from pre-K to 8th grade and then graduated from Christ the King High School in 2018. During those years, she was involved in many theatre productions and music clubs, she just felt so comfortable in that world away from treatments. She was pursuing a musical theatre degree at Lees McRae college in Banner Elk, NC with dreams of working on broadway, movies, plays and even musical therapy to help others. Alexandra was always in charge of how she would handle things that happened to her. She controlled the outcome with all her might. She made so many wonderful friends in her short lifetime that gave her even more strength to keep moving forward. Next to theatre and music, her biggest passion was Disney World, well absolutely anything and everything Disney would be more precise. She was blessed to have gone in 2004 for her Make-A-Wish, 2015 for her 16th birthday party, 2017 birthday party again, Summer and again her birthday in 2018 would be her last visit. She was accepted into the Disney College Program and had auditioned and was chosen to be a Disney Princess. Things started to get very rough after enduring 12 plus relapses and the toll it took on her body, but never her spirit.
Alexandra would want us all to face life exactly like her. She would want us to remember her not with a tear but with a smile. She would want us to find comfort in knowing she is free from pain and at home with her Grand mama and family in heaven.
“The world changes from year to year, our lives from day to day, but the love and memory of YOU, shall NEVER FADE AWAY.”
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her her grandmother Donna Kay Schaney, her Aunts and Uncles : Christine Schaney & Bill Humberson, Robin & Alan Marks, Greg & Eliza Harper, Cindy & Ross Fowler. Cousins: Amanda Fowler, Adam (Angie) Marks, Jake Marks, Angela (Tillmon) Cook. Alexandra was predeceased by Grandparents : David & Ruth Harper. She also leaves behind her loving dogs Molly & Moe.
