Alice Vermillion's Obituary
Alice Catherine Cleary Vermillion (née Alice Catherine Cleary) died peacefully on July 20, 2018, in Charlotte, NC at the age of 88.
Alice Catherine is survived by her sons, Kevin (Alison) and Ryan (Margie), her daughter, Josephine, her daughter-in-law, Jennifer, her brother, James L. Cleary (Nancy), and ten grandchildren; Erin, Elizabeth, Riley, Sarah, John, Ryan Jr., Joseph, and Alice Vermillion, Alexander and Anna Canales, as well as 21 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Stephen D. Vermillion Jr. and their son, Stephen D. Vermillion III.
Alice Catherine was born on September 8, 1929, in Washington, D.C., the fifth of seven children, to Daniel J. and Alice B. Cleary. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1948 and attended Wilson Teachers College. In 1951 she married Steve at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Washington, D.C. During their 58 years of marriage, Alice Catherine and Steve lived in Washington, D.C., Miami, FL, Costa Rica, and Panama, finally settling on Lake Norman in Cornelius, NC. She was an active member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Huntersville, NC and the Women of Joy ministry. Alice Catherine was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and grandmother, and will be remembered for her blue eyes, warm smile and unshakable Catholic faith.
Her family would like to personally thank the many doctors and medical staff at Carolinas Medical Center who took special care of their mother, particularly Drs. Robert Heyer, Geoff Rose, Robert Yavorski, and Nancy Gritter, along with Carol Dickenson, Mary Jo Little, and Ashley Moore.
Friends may call, Wednesday July 25 from 6:00-8:00 PM at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Dr, Huntersville, NC 28078. A Rosary will be said at 6:00 PM.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 26 at 11:00 AM at St. Mark Catholic Church, 14740 Stumpton Rd, Huntersville, NC.
