Alvaro Torres' Obituary
Alvaro Torres of Huntersville, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on the evening of September 27, 2023, in his home in Huntersville at the age of 91.
Alvaro was born February 8, 1932, in Granada, Spain. He married Maria Asuncion Castellano on July 9, 1959. Before arriving to America, he worked in his town’s City Hall in Atarfe as an Accountant. He enjoyed playing soccer very much and was a semi-profession player in Spain. He made his home in New York in 1961 where he worked hard to support his family as a Banquet Manager in the University Club. In 2004, he and his wife, Maria, moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he lived the rest of his days peacefully surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
His devotion and love for his Catholic faith left an imprint on his family and all those who knew him. He greatly enjoyed spending time with family over good food, conversation and much laughter. Alvaro is survived by his wife, Maria, his two sons, Alvaro Jr. & John and their spouses, Valentina and Lucy, along with his eleven grandchildren, and his nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Friday, September 29, at James Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 5:30 PM. The Funeral Mass will be at 11 AM Saturday, September 30, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Huntersville, North Carolina. The burial will take place immediately after Holy Mass at Northlake Memorial Gardens in Huntersville.
