Andrew Edward Tomsho's Obituary
Andrew (Andy) E. Tomsho, Sr. passed away on May 22, 2023 at Novant Medical Center, Huntersville, NC. Andy was born in Humboldt, PA on May 25, 1921 to the late Andrew J. and Anna (Tomandy) Tomsho. Prior to relocating to be near family in North Carolina, Andy was a long-time Hazleton, PA resident.
Andy graduated from West Hazleton High School in 1940. He served in the Navy during World War II and was called up to serve during the Korean War while a member of the Naval Reserve. His rank in the Navy was EM 1/C. Andy received campaign medals for his service in Europe and the Pacific during WWII and several special service medals for his participation in both wars.
After his military service and prior to his retirement in 1988, Andy spent 29 years as a Production Supervisor at Prestolite Wire and Cable Company in Hazleton, PA and 9 years as Production Manager for Tamaqua Cable Products.
Andy was a parishioner of S.S. Cyril and Methodius Parish and he was a member of the Men of the Sacred Heart. Prior to its closing, Andy was actively involved in the parish life of Holy Trinity Slovak Church and its Holy Name Society.
Andy was a member of American Legion Post 76 and he held a lifetime membership in the Hazleton Heights Volunteer Fire Company.
Andy was a loving and caring husband to his wife of 61 years, Agnes (Pavlick) Tomsho, who preceded him in death in 2007.
In addition to his parents and wife, Andy was preceded in death by his four brothers (Michael, Joseph, John, and Leonard) and by his three sisters (Mrs. Mary Domin, Mrs. Anna Perline, and Mrs. Helen Komosinsky).
He is survived by his daughter, Rita Yashur and husband, Timothy, of New Freedom, PA; son, Andrew Tomsho and wife, Lynne, of Mount Holly, NC; daughter, Elaine Postawa and husband, Raymond, of Newport, NC; grandchildren, James Yashur, Matthew Tomsho, Krystina Fuge and Drew Tomsho and several nieces and nephews.
The last few years of Andy’s life were spent under the loving care of the staff at Northlake House in Charlotte.
