Angel Bonilla's Obituary
Angel Bonilla, 83, of Charlotte, went to his heavenly home on May 18, 2021. Angel was a humble man who loved the Lord, his family, church and native island of Puerto Rico.
Angel was born on September 4, 1937 in the town of Camuy, Puerto Rico to Pedro and Maria Bonilla in a Christian home. Angel, who was also known as William, began working at a very young age in the sugar cane fields of his native Puerto Rico. He was one of seven children and at the age of 20, Angel moved to New York City in search of a better life. While there, he met his beloved wife, Miriam, whom he was married to for 55 years. Angel and Miriam lived in various cities including The Bronx, NY, Boca Raton, Fl and Charlotte, NC. before retiring back home to Lares, Puerto Rico.
Angel worked many years for both IBM and Solectron during the personal computer boom and got to be part of history as IBM PC juniors became part of many American homes. He was a member of La Voz de la Esperanza church for many years in Charlotte, NC. Angel's Christian faith was an essential part of his life. He spent a great deal of time volunteering at his church and helping establish its roots in the Latino community. He loved antiques, especially cars! Throughout the years he grew his collection of antique model cars which gave him much happiness. He also loved 50s & 60s music, classic western movies, gardening, fishing and cooking.
Survivors include his wife Miriam Bonilla; daughter, Wanda Bonilla, granddaughters, Amanda Singh, Chelsea Torres and Isabela Villanueva, great-grandchildren, Sophia Torres and Leo Singh. Sisters: Isabel, Miriam, and Mirta, several cherished nieces and nephews including Maria Jimenez, Eddie Jimenez, Roland Guiterrez, Christopher Colom, Rachel Colom, and Isaac Bonilla II. Angel was greeted in heaven by his son, Alex Bonilla.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Sunday, May 23 at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive. Huntersville. Visitation will be 10-11 prior. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
