Anne Gentry's Obituary
Anne Black Calhoun Gentry died Wednesday, July 24, 2019, in Huntersville. She was born December 11, 1947, in Charlotte to Rev. Dr. Malcolm Patterson Calhoun and Margaret Cromartie Calhoun.
Anne graduated with a B.A. from Salem College in 1969, and later went back to school and received a B.S. from the Medical College of Virginia, and a Masters in Public Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She worked in healthcare and clinical research, and was especially proud of her work with HIV/AIDS patients during the early years of the epidemic. She was a fearless champion for civil rights and equality. She was a lifelong Presbyterian and a pipe organ enthusiast, enjoyed windsurfing, and was always accompanied by her beloved dogs.
She is survived by her sister Margaret Calhoun of Laurinburg; brother Mac Calhoun of Richmond, VA; daughter Laurin Titus (Derek) of Davidson; daughter Katie Vasquez (Frank) of Winston-Salem; and two grandsons, Charlie and Mac Titus of Davidson.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2019 in the sanctuary at Davidson College Presbyterian Church.
