Anthony McCauley's Obituary
Anthony McCauley who entered eternal life on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 was a Superhero.
His magical spirit is carried on by his wife of 39 years (with 44 total years together); Iris McCauley, two children; Regina and Michelle, 4 grandchildren,7 surviving siblings, and extended family and friends from every walk of life.
Our superhero is remembered for being smart, funny, creative, and smooth in Adidas head to toe. He had a photographic memory that allowed him to recall memories, in detail, even in his last days. He could draw, he could write, he could build a functioning robot from pieces of wood and cardboard. In his autobiography, he wrote, “ at the age of five my sister and I started Kindergarten and I loved learning new things like the three r’s. I picked up things quickly and was told I was very advanced.” The origin story goes on to tell a Superhero tale of triumphs and defeats but his spirit was never broken. With each battle in life, Anthony remained grounded in God. Known to end a phone conversation with bible verses or bring a lively party to a screeching holt with talk of the Lord and His greatness. Anthony was never ordinary, never blended in. He loved hard and compelled others to think bigger- sometimes with a smile and sometimes with intensity. He motivated children, doctors, lawyers, Christians and non-Christians alike. He knew when to listen and when to fuss. He knew how to lead in a house where he was outnumbered by women. He never liked to talk on the phone but he loved to talk and always had an amazing story of his heralding triumphs in life. He was loved by most and admired by many. He could help save lives at night working in the Emergency Department and only be 30 minutes late to pick his youngest daughter up from school. Our Superhero didn’t cook but he could fry chicken like no other and could make a great bologna sandwich. There are so many beautiful novels about our Superhero that there aren’t enough words. But our Superhero met his match with Cancer. He bravely fought. He quietly cried. He vigilantly prayed. Ultimately, Cancer won. But our Superhero remains undefeated. He gained wings on July 2, 2024 which is the ultimate victory. Even in his fight with Cancer, he would share life lessons like, “being strong isn’t just physical, always take the money, don’t be passive in life, and put 15 % in your retirement.” He is remembered as a beloved champion, cherished husband, and devoted father.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Monday, July 8 with funeral services beginning at 12 p.m. at James Funeral Home. Committal services will follow at Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens. A repass will follow at the funeral home.
