Arnold Blythe Sharar's Obituary
Arnold Blythe Sharar, of Charlotte, died peacefully on September 4, 2015 in the loving arms of his wife Jan and daughters Sally and Laura. He was born on December 4, 1938 to Sarah Blythe and Edgar Alexander Sharar, at St. Peters Hospital in Charlotte, NC.
Arnie attended Long Creek School, graduating from North Mecklenburg High School in 1957. He was drafted into the US Army (1961-63) serving two years in the National Guard. In his early years he was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, he was an acolyte, lay leader and youth leader. Arnie married Jan at Hopewell Presbyterian Church September 1, 1962. They recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary with family and friends. After moving to Charlotte in 1978, Arnie and his family joined Myers Park United Methodist Church. Arnie was employed by First Union National Bank for 16 years, then Home Federal Savings and Loan for many years, then First Charter Bank and retired from Fifth Third Bank. Arnie was an active server of Men’s Shelter of Charlotte, and South Tyron Church meals for the homeless, and he was also involved with Myers Park United Methodist youth group and mission trips, Room in the Inn, Charlotte Special Olympics. He also volunteered at the Red Cross and gave many gallons of blood. He participated in fundraising for the American Cancer Society, and many others. His favorite hobbies were gardening and flowers. He had a love for all people, especially his brothers and sisters. Grandchildren were his joy and delight!
He is survived by his wife Jan Sutton Sharar; daughters, Sally Marie Sharar Phillips and her husband Brenden Phillips; their three children, Blythe Marie, Brooks and Cort, Laura Elaine Sharar Sutthoff and her husband Jeff Sutthoff and twin sons, Ethan and Gavin; siblings, Bain Sharar, Reid Sharar, Peggy Kerns, Nancy Brown, Bill Sharar of Charlotte and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice of Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th St. Charlotte, NC 28204 or Myers Park U.M.C. 1501 Queens Rd., Charlotte, NC 28207.
Burial with military honors will take place at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Monday, September 7 at 2 PM. The memorial service will take place at Myers Park U.M.C. on Friday, September 11 at 2 PM. Visitation will follow the service.
