Arzelle Deese's Obituary
Mamie Arzell Yost Deese, age 80, of Huntersville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 15, 2012 at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House.Arzell was born in Mecklenburg County on Wednesday, January 6, 1932 to the late Mamie Virginia Riley Yost and Alonzo Jackson Yost. She was a retired seamstress in various upholstery companies in the Charlotte area.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Clarence Houston Deese, Sr.; her only child, Clarence ‘Houston’ Deese, Jr.; brother, Alonzo ‘Jack’ Yost, Jr.; sister, Manola Yost Taylor; niece, Karen Taylor Keziah.
She was a longtime member of Hopewell Baptist Church, Davidson, NC and also attended Asbury United Methodist Church, Huntersville, NC. Until her failing health, she was active in Sunday School having served as a teacher in past years and was also active in WMU. For many years, she drove the church van at Hopewell taking her Sunday School class members, The Homemakers, on many exciting road trips. She loved her church and all her church family members both at Hopewell and Asbury.
Survivors include granddaughter, Jennifer ‘Jenni’ Anderson and husband, Derek of Virginia Beach, VA; Andrea ‘Nikki’ Deese and friend Josh Wallace of Concord, NC; step-grandsons, Eric McManus and wife, Stephanie of Monroe, NC; Craig McManus and wife, Meghann of Fayetteville, NC; Jason McManus and wife, Ro of Indian Trail, NC; my special nieces Donna Fite and husband Kevin of Statesville, Krystal King and husband Tom Solder of Chapel Hill, NC; Haley May Keziah and her father Jimmy Keziah of Huntersville; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Ethan & HannahAnderson; Reese McManus; Reagan McManus and Madison McManus; daughter-in-law, Betty Kissiah of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter-in-law,Vicki Deese of Indian Trail, NC; and many cousins.
From Arzell’s own writing: My special love to James ‘Tony’ Ritchie, son of Sherri Alley Riley and James Ritchie. Special people, Peggy Auten and her children, Ruth Ferrell and her children who have taken care of me and also Martin Osborne. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the Hospice House that is a ‘Healing House’ and the people who work for Hospice: Rachel and Anita (my nurses); Kathy who helped me with baths; Andrea (worker); April, my housekeeper, and Walter, the Hospice Chaplin. They treated me like I was a Queen. They are a very special and loving group of people. May God continue to bless all of you.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Howard and Rev. Sammy Pierce officiating. Visitation will follow.
