What a grand old gal she was, so funny smart and full of life to the very end!
Aurie and Bill were my late wife and my neighbors in Prospect Hill, near Denver N. C. We met over a power outage, I believe it was about 1991, Aurie had a gas stove so she cooked breakfast for us and some of the neighbors. She was such a giving person, she would give you the shirt off of her back. She being a Democrat and me a Republican gave way to many a fun discussion for us, my late wife Carolyn used to tell us to tone it down! The last few years that we lived in Prospect Hill Aurie was by herself as Bill had gone to live in Florida. About once a week we would have Aurie for dinner, Carolyn would be in the kitchen cooking dinner and Aurie and I would have a little Scotch and talk about politics! Over the ten years that we lived in Prospect Hill Carolyn and Aurie became like sisters and the best of friends, they used to walk almost every day at the East Lincoln High School Track just up the road. Even when we moved up to the mountains in Little Switzerland Carolyn used to go down to Aurie's in her new home in Huntersville for a couple of days at a time to go shopping and to spend just girl time. We also would bring Aurie up to our mountain home for visits, we would have to go and get her and then take her home as she said she could not drive on anything but straight roads like they had in Florida!!
When Carolyn passed away in 2005, Aurie took it very hard as she lost her best friend. Since then Aurie and I have kept in touch with each other, sorry to say not near as much as I should have. You have very few true friends in this life,
maybe five or so, for Carolyn and I, Aurie was one of those five! I will really miss her!
