Barbara Webster Gammon's Obituary
Barbara Gammon, of Cornelius (February 12, 1929 - May 12, 2016) passed away peacefully on May 12, 2016. Barbara treasured this tribute written by granddaughter-in-law Magda Gammon:
There are not enough words to describe how much you mean to us. You are our "character," our "rock," and the starting point for this strong great family. Without you and Daddy, there would be no "us" and we are eternally grateful for the life you have given us - not only your own five children, but the rest of us as well (the outlaws, grands, and greats). We will be forever grateful for the great example you and Bob set for the family and will work the rest of our lives to show that same love to our children.
We love so much about you. You have a dramatic personality, great wit and sense of humor, empathy towards others, enthusiastic spirit for those around you (especially the underdog), tireless work ethic for the community and political arena, story teller's charisma with family history, global knowledge and "pulse" on the world around us, "hip" attitude with using the latest technology and a knack for always being "in the know" with pop culture news. Whether it is celebrity news, fashion and/or beauty, you were our first family fashionista. You have supported us and been our biggest cheerleader, challenged us with new thoughts and ideas, and encouraged us in our pursuits. Most of all, you have taught us how to love. We all love you so much.
Missing Barbara greatly are “the lights of her life,” children Robert Jr., Barbara Sheridan, Dennis, Garry, her tireless long-time caregiver Garth, and her eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Per Barbara’s wishes, services are private and the family will host a gathering of friends on a later date.
Barbara loved her “Hospice sorority sisters.” Said Barbara, “You have to understand - when a gal reaches 87, she is pretty much on her own. Gone are best pals, silly and fun gal pals. When Hospice welcomes you into their loving arms, it’s like being welcomed into a private club.” She specifically mentioned “Mother Earth Crystal, Bathing Angel Angie, Dori with the golden hands, Catherine, and gorgeous mermaid Megan.”
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Lake Norman, 705 Griffith Street, Suite 203, Davidson, NC 28036
