Barbara Mayberry's Obituary
Barbara Ann Williams Mayberry, 88, of Huntersville, NC left this world for her heavenly home on Friday, March 24, 2023.
Barbara was born in Salisbury, NC on August 11, 1934, the youngest of eight children, to the late James Thomas Williams and Delia Howard Williams. The family soon thereafter moved to Mooresville, NC, where Barbara and her siblings spent their childhood years.
In her mid-teens, Barbara began working for her sister and brother-in-law at their Huntersville Café, where she soon met her future husband, Bob Mayberry, whom she later married and became a permanent Huntersville resident. Other employment history is notable for her time working at Hoskins Drug Store in Charlotte, NC, where she was known for making her delicious milkshakes and hand-dipped ice cream cones. She later retired from Roses Discount Store in Mooresville, NC, where she formed many long-term friendships.
Barbara always enjoyed traveling at every opportunity. She especially enjoyed traveling with Christian Tours throughout the United States, as well as memorable trips abroad to England and Israel with family and friends.
When not traveling, Barbara was front and center at every family or friend get-together. She was known as the family’s “social butterfly” and loved nothing more than to enjoy food and fellowship with friends and family.
Barbara loved God and was a faithful, long-time member of Huntersville Church of God (now Lake Harvest Church of God), where she enjoyed worshipping with her church family and friends. She loved participating in all church activities, but especially those involving the children!
Her loving and compassionate nature led her to care for family and friends in declining health or for anyone less fortunate than herself. She willingly provided transportation for others to the doctor, the grocery store, a favorite restaurant, or wherever the need arose. It was always her desire that no person should be without food or warm clothing and she generously donated to local food drives or coat/clothing drives.
Barbara’s proudest accomplishment was her family. She loved her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was so proud of each of them and loved them to the moon and back!
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved son, Todd Mayberry, her husband, Bob Mayberry, as well as brothers, B.L. Williams, Claude Williams, sisters, Sarah Robinson, Wynetta Robinson, Evelyn Nance and Betty Burton.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Rhonda Jones (Dean), grandsons Jeremy Jones (Amanda), Cory Jones (Lori), great-grandchildren, Christian Jones, Cassie Jones, Eli Jones and Maddie Jones. She is also survived by one sister, Odessa Overcash, of Mooresville, NC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 31 at James Funeral Home at 3 PM. Visitation will be 2-3 Prior and burial will follow at Huntersville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Lake Harvest Church of God, P.O. Box 661, Huntersville, NC 28070.
James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
