Barry DeLane Sims' Obituary
Barry DeLane Sims, 81, died on Monday, March 6, 2023 after an extended illness at Olde Knox
Commons Nursing Home. He was born on October 13, 1941 in Mooresville, NC, the son of George
“Red” Sims and Estelle Sims.
Barry graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1960. Following graduation, he served in the Army stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas and then a tour of Vietnam.
He was married to Chandra Abser Sims and celebrated 27 years of marriage.
He is predeceased in death by his parents, George and Estelle Sims.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Chandra Abser Sims, are his son, Barry William Sims and his wife,
Candice, of Mooresville, NC, Steven Sims of Cornelius, NC, daughter, Heather Sims and husband, Patrick, of Ocala, Fla, Chase Sims of Cleveland,NC, nine grandchildren, Brittany, Cassidy, Sidney, Zack, Maddie, Cadence, Waylon, Aubree and Kynlee, 3 step-grandchildren, Mason, Savannah, and Levi, five great-grandchildren, Luke, Rhett, Colton, Sawyer and Wiley. One sister, Rhonda Sims Walker of Mooresville.
Barry worked for Blythe Industries and retired after 20 years as manager of the Asphalt Plant in Concord, NC.
Barry had such a love for Nascar racing and as a teenager he loved drag racing with his buddies.
He so loved being from the small town of Cornelius and had many great friends and memories growing up in a small town community.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11 at James Funeral Home
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11 at Mt. Zion Communmity Cemetery.
