Bessie Dye's Obituary
Elizabeth “Bessie” Dye was born on May 4, 1928, in Camden, South Carolina to the late James “Jimmy” and Roxanne Johnson and departed this life on January 31, 2024 at her home. Bessie was married to the late George Lee Dye whom she loved dearly. She was employed and served as a nurse for over 30 years at Huntersville Oaks Hospital in Huntersville, NC. She loved quilting by hand and watching old Western movies in her spare time. She was also a member of The Huntersville Women’s Bible Club.
Later in life, Mother Bessie Dye was led to worship at God’s House Apostolic Inc. under the leadership of Senior Pastor Mac A. Hicklin; not only did she gain a new pastor, but she gained a son, in the person of Pastor Hicklin. It was no secret, she loved him, and he loved her. She was a faithful and dedicated member of God’s House Apostolic, INC for over 17 years until her health declined. She loved God and she loved her biological family. A few months ago, she enjoyed a train ride to visit family in Georgia and a plane ride to visit family in Texas. She was elated and had a beautiful stay with her family during both trips. Mother Dye also loved her extended spiritual family. She would often instruct those she encountered with teachings that only could come from an aged woman with heavenly wisdom. She embraced everyone she met in a manner that only she could do as she would call everyone her child (whether young or old) even if it was a person’s first time at God’s House. She had an infectious smile and an “out of this world” personality that would draw anyone in with her smile. During Communion Service, Mother Dye washed the saint’s feet and prayed blessings over them and their feet that they would walk in God’s way continuously. She always made sure the communion towels and other materials were washed, folded, and cleaned to perfection and ready for the next communion service. Proverbs 31:10 ask, Who can find a virtuous woman? “For her price is far above rubies”; We did, and everyone can honestly say that Mother Bessie Dye was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman. God truly blessed us to be in the company and serve with a true Mother of Zion indeed!
Mother Dye was preceded in death by her parents, James and Roxanne Johnson; her husband, George Lee Dye; three brothers, James, Rudolph and Frank Johnson; one sister, Florie Lawson; four sons, David, Billy, Clarence and Robert as well as one beloved daughter, Mary.
Mother Dye leaves to cherish her loving memories, five daughters: Prophetess Roxanna Pridgen, Phyllis (Nathaniel) Pridgen, Patricia Davis, Levette (Arthur) Spear, Ella (Kevin) Gantt; her grandchildren: Carmen Friday, Daniel Drakeford, Charita Davis, Jacorey Davis, Amanda Davis, Alisha Davis, Timothy Hart, Victoria Hart, Markida Gantt, Natasha Gantt, Constance Lilly, Lamont Oliver, Jewett Clark, Tierra, Shawn, Jennifer Johnson, Brian (Shameka) Johnson, Cleveland (Gloria) Haggins; her great-grandchildren: Hailey, Kailey, Damion, Aniyah Milligan ; Jayla, Jeremiah Lee; Alle Gantt, Miyah Davis, Mikiria Williams, Jason Baker Jr; JaCorey Jr, Ariana, Ja’Core Davis; Michael (Maia) Friday, CiAndre Friday, Shawndrayia Friday; Destiny Barringer, Jasmine Wilson; Asa Johnson, LaClesha, Crystal, Martavious, Nathaniel, Santonio, Tray, Jerry, Dorcas, Monique Haggins.
