Betty Barber's Obituary
Betty Barber, 85, of Charlotte, NC passed away on August 11, 2013 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC.
Betty was born on December 29, 1927 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Oliver Alphonso and Nina Starnes Harrell. She graduated from Little Rock Junior College and married Vincent Harton Barber in 1949. She moved to Charlotte in 1993, a few years following the death of her beloved husband of forty years.
Betty will be best remembered for her love and dedication to her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, who all appreciated her kindness, generosity, wisdom, sense of humor, and most of all – her eternal optimism. Aside from the enjoyment of her family, Betty had an immense sweet tooth, and would rarely turn down a piece of cake, a slice of pie, cookies, donuts, or just about anything chocolate.
Survivors include four daughters – Susan Hall of Charlotte, NC, Nancy Rummel and husband Herb of Hensley, AR, Rebecca Simmons and husband John of Charlotte, NC, and Laura Hamrick and husband Eric of Ft. Collins, CO. She is also survived by eight grandchildren – Catherine Thatcher, Margaret Hall, John Harton Simmons and Sara Simmons of Charlotte, NC; Jennifer Arter of Hensley, AR; Christopher Hamrick, Ashley Martinez, and Sarah Hamrick of Ft. Collins, CO, along with five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorials be made to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House of Huntersville c/o Hospice & Palliative Care – Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC at donatehospice.org to express their sincere appreciation for the compassionate care given to Betty during her final days.
