Betty Lineberry's Obituary
BETTY CLOUD KELL LINEBERRY of Davidson quietly slipped into the Lord’s Presence on Friday morning, June 13th, 2025, at the ripe young age of 97 ½, as she would say. Betty is preceded into glory by her parents, Daniel Hill Kell and Grace McGinn Kell, her loving husband, Charles “Chuck” Lineberry, and her sisters, Mary Susan Kell and Sarah Kell Conder. Betty is survived by two sons, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Born at home on November 2, 1927, Betty was raised on a farm in the Harrison/Providence communities outside of Pineville, NC. Betty’s father (born in 1870) tragically died on Christmas Eve, 1931, during the height of the Depression. Life was not easy in rural NC, but Betty was an enterprising young lady. By age 10, she was cutting more than an acre of grass by push mower, starting on Monday and finishing on Friday, only to start all over the following week.
Betty graduated from Pineville High School in 1945 and began work as a secretary for the Carnation Corporation in Charlotte, NC. Later, Betty worked the circulation desk for the Charlotte News.
Betty and Chuck were married at Harrison Methodist Church in Pineville, NC on 6 June 1953 in order to commemorate the D-Day invasion, as Chuck would say.
Every anniversary involved a dinner conversation along these lines:
Chuck: “Betty, want to go another year?” Betty: “Sure, how about you?”
Chuck: “Yeah, for the sake of the kids.” (And we kids would giggle.)
After 50 years of marriage, however, the conversation changed to:
Chuck: “Betty, want to go another year?” Betty: “Sure, how about you?”
Chuck: “Well, we’ve gone this far, we might as well go the distance.” (And they would giggle.)
Chuck passed away in January 2014 after almost 62 years of marriage. After 11 years, 4 months, and 13 days apart, they’re together again with the Lord.
A private grave side memorial will be held with the family.
