Betty Ranson's Obituary
Betty Hooks Ranson, loving wife of Robert Hunter Ranson for 61 years & longtime resident of Huntersville went to be with our Lord on December 11, 2011. Betty was the daughter of the late Walter Robert & Lola Reid Hooks & was born in Belmont, NC on February 8, 1930. She grew up in Mooresville & later in Cornelius where she graduated high school in 1948. She married Bobby Ranson on August 9, 1950
Bobby & Betty made their home in Huntersville where they raised their two children, Robert & Julie. Betty was a wonderful homemaker, the consummate hostess, & enjoyed entertaining in their home. She was active in their church, Huntersville Presbyterian, where she served as Sunday school teacher, Circle leader, Women of the Church officer, Clerk of Session, & Elder. She was also active for many years in the Huntersville Woman’s Club. Betty wrote articles for the Mecklenburg Times & tutored many students in both reading & math labs at Huntersville Elementary School. She was a talented caterer in the 1960’s & 70’s, catering many weddings, bridal showers & ladies’ teas as well as business luncheons & dinners. She also enjoyed playing bridge & was in clubs for over 50 years. Betty greatly enjoyed & excelled in her roles as supportive wife & nurturing mother. Perhaps because her own mother died when Betty was 11, she determined to love, support, & nurture her own husband & children her entire life.
In 1974 Betty & Bobby founded their own business, North Mecklenburg Plumbing Co Inc. Betty handled the administrative end of the business while Bobby handled the technical aspects. They formed a productive partnership & enjoyed a rare relationship, not only as business partners but also partners in life.
She & Bobby enjoyed traveling & made many trips including several to Great Britain, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, & Costa Rica. In 2007, Bobby & Betty moved to the Taylor Glen retirement community where they made many friends & enjoyed activities & fellowship.
