Betty Wallace's Obituary
Betty Jean Belk Wallace, 95, of Huntersville died March 7, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Mecklenburg County on December 6, 1928 to the late Hoyt Roosevelt Belk and Bessie Seymour Belk.
Betty married Woodley at the young age of 15 but it was a marriage that lasted for 74 years. She would always tell you they met at a dance.
Betty was an excellent cook and homemaker and loved having a clean house! She was artistic and was a great seamstress! She loved to read good westerns and work jigsaw puzzles! Her favorite pasttime was cheering on her Atlanta Braves. She was an avid fan that used to travel with her friend, Nancy Lindley to see spring training and made over 60 trips with her friend with Christian Tours through the years.
She loved shopping with her sister, Nelle Bates, and they loved Belks and Talbots and any store with a good shoe sale.
She loved taking good care of herself and having her hair fixed and was such a sharp dresser! She never looked her age and was told that often.
Betty was a special sister, daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She loved all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always loved giving them gifts at their birthdays and Christmas!
Betty was very active at Prosperity Church through the years. She taught Vacation Bible School, and Alma Wallace Sunday School classes, and served as various offices in the Women's work of the church. She and Woodley also attended Hickory Grove Church and Skybrook Church and Calvary ARP Church but returned to their "home" church a few years back where they always said felt like home! Betty will be buried at Prosperity PCA Church beside her spouse, Woodley who died in January, 2019.
Betty loved to travel, and loved her beach house at Cherry Grove Beach, shopping with friends, trying good southern recipes, and was one of the most generous people you will ever meet. Many benefited from her clothes she loved to share with others. She was always so giving to her children and grandchildren!
Hands down - she was the best pecan pie maker you have ever met!! Members of the family waited in line to get a slice of her pie at holiday meals!
Each year the church gives a flower for the oldest and youngest Mother in the church on Mother's Day. Betty had been the oldest Mom in the church for a good many years but she never wanted to receive the flower - instead she would donate it to a young mom in the church.
As her car tag read, she was always "Redy2Go"
For her 95th birthday in December, the family provided horse and buggy rides for the family and she absolutely loved it and two days before she died she was able to ride up and see Myra and Steve's new log home in Union Grove, NC She said she loved the beautiful huge logs. We are so blessed she made the trip.
Betty lived long enough to see all of her 9 grandchildren married and most of their high school and college graduations! She had many milestones she sat and achieved during her long and beautiful life.
Her children will always remember her as a strict but loving Mom who taught faith, honesty and giving and sharing with others. She will always be remembered as a "feisty" lady that loved her Lord and Savior and assured the family before her surgery, should anything happen she knew she was headed to her real heavenly home and she was perfectly okay with that!
May you rest in peace - our beautiful Mother and Grandmother
"well done my good and faithful servant"
If you really knew Betty, you knew she loved only Coke to drink and only the Atlanta Braves baseball games!
She was preceded in death by her husband John Woodley Wallace, Sr., sister, Nelle Bates and granddaughter, Heather Wallace Bridwell.
Survivors include her son, John Woodley Wallace, Jr. and wife Shelby of Huntersville; daughters, Myra Wallace Billings and husband Steve of Huntersville and Elizabeth Wallace Koroskenyi and husband Tom of Salisbury; 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
