Bill Cagle's Obituary
Bill Cagle was born April 9, 1933 in Heavener, Oklahoma to Elmer and Ruth Cagle. He was one of seven children, and shared a life-long bond with his siblings until passing. He graduated from Heavener High School and thereafter joined the US Air Force, participated in the restructuring of Japan, and served through the beginning of the Korean conflict. Bill graduated from the University of Houston and did post-graduate work at Rice University and the University of Tulsa. He married the love of his life, Sue Wood, in 1956. They traveled the world, served the Lord, raised two daughters, and eventually retired in Mooresville, NC.
Professionally, Bill worked as a mechanical engineer for Phillips Petroleum Company for most of his life. He also served as Vice President of Research & Development for Toter, Inc. in Statesville, NC. His life’s passion was to serve and love people. He held several patents, served on a number of international missionary journeys, and helped with the building design work for Grace Covenant Church in Cornelius, NC.
Bill went to be with the Lord on February 16th after a long battle with Dementia. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sue, and his daughters, Tonya (Kelvin) of Rapid City, SD & Kimberly (Michael) of Berthoud, CO. He is also survived by two sisters, Jan (Calvin) and Earnestine (Lowell), and two brothers, Glenn (Charlene) and Roger (Cindy). He also has 6 grandchildren that he adored and mentored: Tatum, Logan, Heath, Jessa, Lane, and Sierra.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 21, at Grace Covenant Church with a Veterans Memorial Service at Salisbury Veterans Cemetery on February 22nd. Memorials can be made to Grace Covenant Church, Cornelius, NC. Mr. Cagle will lie in state from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday. James Funeral Home of Huntersville is assisting the family.
