Billy G. Burgess, 80 of Huntersville died June 14, 2014. He was born on July 13, 1933 in Haywood County to the late Floyd and Ethel Burgess. He served in the US Navy. He retired from the City of Charlotte’s Utility Department as S Read Obituary

I met Billy back around 1979 or so when I was a project civil engineer for the Utility Department. I received an inter-office memo that had been hand addressed to Billy G. Burgess but someone mistaked the handwriting for Riley D. I found out where Billy worked, drove out there and personally delivered the memo to him and began a friendship with a great guy. I used to ride out there during the day just to hang with those guys, often ate breakfast or lunch with them, and always found Billy to be pleasant, friendly, and honorable. He was a credit to his job and the department and I wrote the Director of the department in praise of Billy more than once. I left City employment in late 1983 and thereafter lost contact, but I will always remember him for the quiet, confident man that he was.
I know that God blessed Billy and I pray that the strength of our Lord sustains you and your family during these days of mourning.
