Billy Frank Hunter's Obituary
Billy Frank “Coach” Hunter, 83 of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on May 8, 2015, at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, North Carolina.
Born in Charlotte on May 8, 1932, he was raised on a dairy farm where he bottled and delivered milk for the family business. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Shirley Connell Hunter; daughter Debby Hunter of Oak Island, North Carolina; son Bobby (Kim) Hunter of Charleston, South Carolina; son Jimmy (Cindy) Hunter of Huntersville, North Carolina; granddaughter Jennifer (Rich) Evans; grandsons Gerald (Anna) Hunter, Bryan Hunter, Chase Hunter, Colt (Theresa) Hunter and Jake Hunter; great-grandchildren Taylor, John and Cameron Bureau, Trey and William Evans, and Bryce Hunter; and his brother Fred Hunter.
Frank was preceded in death by his brother Parks Hunter and sisters Florence Ealey and Frances Martin, as well as his canine best friend Dixie Hunter.
As a teenager, Frank was a cheerleader at Derita High School when Shirley played basketball. Frank served in the United States Army in England. A longtime employee of Southern Bell Telephone Company, he retired in 1987 and co-founded Universal Voice & Data a short time later. Frank was a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, Deacon and Elder at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. He volunteered as a leader at 4-H, and as a volunteer fireman at the Statesville Road Volunteer Fire Department and the Mallard Creek Volunteer Fire Department. In later years, his family and friends knew Frank as “Coach” after coaching several sports in which his grandchildren played, and additionally for being the coach of his family’s lives, imparting many lessons in his unique caring way.
The funeral will be held on May 13, 2015, at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm, with the service at 2:00 and internment following in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made in Frank’s honor to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, The Ivey Memory Wellness Day Center or to Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the Hospice House staff for their special service. Coach will be deeply missed and remembered for his love of his country, family, church and God.
