Blair Boggs' Obituary
Blair Allen Boggs
February 6, 1936- January 23, 2026
Blair was preceded in death by his son, Scott, and sister, Laurel. He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Margaret, daughter, Gwen Allen (Denver, CO), daughter-in-law, Kelly McMullen (Durham, NC), brother, Drew Boggs (Charlotte, NC), sister-in-law, Mary Boggs (Charlotte, NC), and brother-in-law, Bill Hughes (Kansas City, KS).
Blair lived a long and vibrant life marked by a love of learning, outdoor activities, and devotion to family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Blair was born in Denver, Colorado and moved with his family at age 6 to Tallahassee, Florida, where he lived until college. Accepted to several universities, he chose the Georgia Institute of Technology—notably because Atlanta was as far north as he was willing to go. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering and participated in ROTC throughout college. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Following graduation, Blair served in the United States Air Force for three years active duty, two of which were in Brindisi, Italy. His time in Italy became a lifelong source of humorous stories that he delighted in sharing. After three more years of reserves, Blair retired from the Air Force as a Captain.
After his military service, Blair began a long career in sales with Allen-Bradley, a factory automation company based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He met the love of his life, Margaret, while at his first job in Milwaukee. Margaret recalls being charmed by his southern accent, good looks, and mutual love of skiing and dancing. His career took him and his family to Detroit, Michigan; Denver, Colorado; and back to Milwaukee, before his final assignment in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he retired at age 62.
A love of music and string instruments was ever present throughout Blair’s life. Over the years, he learned to play the guitar, the banjo, the hammered dulcimer, and the violin. His son Scott also loved music and they enjoyed playing together during visits.
Blair learned and enjoyed sports unique to each state in which he lived, although he golfed and skied everywhere he lived. In Wisconsin he ice fished; in Michigan he enjoyed boating, fly fishing, and camping; and in Colorado he hiked, and camped; and in North Carolina he enjoyed sailing and shot gun shooting. Blair returned to Colorado annually to ski with his daughter Gwen until he was 81 years old.
Blair and his wife enjoyed numerous international trips with family members, including a return to Italy, and a bucket list trip to Normandy France to see WWII history that he read about as a child. His last trip was with his children when he was 83 years old.
In retirement, he learned to paint with watercolors and took on numerous volunteer roles. He worked for Habitat for Humanity for many years, the volunteer role he was most passionate about. Retirement also allowed time for a busy social life (including as many parties as possible that included dancing) with his wife and many cherished friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Davidson United Methodist Church. A reception will be held at 12:00pm at 17237 Courtside Landing Drive, Cornelius (please RSVP by 2/6 for the reception to [email protected])
