Bobby "Bob" Sells' Obituary
Bobby L. Sells, 72 yrs, of Cornelius, entered eternal rest Thursday, July 25, 2013 surrounded by his loving family which included the amazing Levine & Dickson Hospice House “family”.
He was born Oct 4, 1940 in Greenville, SC to Charles Mason Sells and Evelyn Still Sells and lived his early years in Jacksonville, NC. Bob was very proud of his American heritage dating back to the Revolutionary War and supported all veterans’ rights. He proudly served his country in the US Army, stationed in the US & Germany. Upon discharge, he and wife Sharon made their home in Charlotte where upon began a 36 year service with the US Postal Service. The last 25 years he was Postmaster of Stanfield NC. Following retirement in 1999 he enjoyed another 9 years of part-time postal contract work out of Huntersville, NC. During his early working years he earned two Associate Degrees from CPCC and attended UNCC.
Always civic minded, Bob was actively involved in Stanfield Lions Club, PTA President, other educational youth supporting projects & medical/dental service activities. Masonic, 32° Scottish Rite, Shrine and American Legion memberships were very important to him.
His strong Christian faith, moral compass, work ethic were reflected in all he did. An eternal optimist, man of his word, loyal friend, consummate encourager and lover of a good laugh were hallmarks.
He loved his Lord and was totally devoted to the family entrusted to him. Survivors are his beloved wife of 48 yrs and soul mate Sharon; three daughters he adored, Terri (Clay) Smith, Concord, NC, Robin (Brent) Wilhoit, Knoxville, TN, and Lesley (Jordan) Lasure, Cornelius, NC; six grandchildren, brought him great joy, Katherine & Brandon Wilhoit, Julia & Cameron Lasure, Grace and Cooper Smith. Also is surviving sister Shirley Coulter & brother-in-law Bob, Lafayette, Ga;
brother-in-law, Terry Thompson, Calgary, Alberta, Canada and special nieces and nephews; Brothers Billy Ray and Charles Mason preceded him in death.
Family will receive friends at the James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville, NC, Sunday, July 28, 2013 from 3-5 pm.
Interment will be 10am, Monday, July 29, 2013 at the Mt. Zion Community Cemetery, Cornelius, NC.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be at the Davidson College Presbyterian Church, Monday, July 29, 2013 at 2pm. A reception will follow in the DCPC Congregation House.
Family would like to extend profound appreciation to the awesome hospice family; the Lake Norman team and Levine & Dickson Hospice House staff, as well as, other medical personnel, including the VA medical system that cared for Bob these many years.
