Bonnie Sue Roberts' Obituary
Bonnie Sue (Polson) Roberts, 74, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. She was born on February 3, 1952, in Rockingham, North Carolina, to the late James Wesley Polson and Myrtle Lyerly Polson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Joyce Polson.
Bonnie was a devoted mother to her two sons, Jamie Roberts and Jason Roberts, and a proud grandmother to seven beloved grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Lisa Polson Jones. Her greatest joy in life was being "Grandma." She cherished every moment she spent with her grandchildren and even moved to Elizabethtown, Kentucky, so she could be closer to them and share in their daily lives. No matter how much pain she endured, Bonnie never missed an opportunity to attend their school events and activities because she wanted each of them to know just how deeply they were loved and how important they were to her.
Her home was a place filled with laughter, love, and treasured memories. Her grandchildren looked forward to spending the night with Grandma, where they stayed up late playing board games, sharing stories, and making memories they will carry with them forever.
Bonnie had a remarkable gift for making everyone she met feel valued and cared for. Her gentle spirit, kind heart, and warm smile touched countless lives. The physicians, nurses, and staff who cared for her in Kentucky often spoke of what a sweet and gracious soul she was. She was also blessed with a wonderful circle of church friends in Elizabethtown who faithfully visited her during her illness and lovingly remained by her side until the very end, a testament to the impact she had on those around her.
Bonnie dedicated many years to serving others throughout her career. From 2003 until 2011, she proudly served as a 911 Dispatcher for the combined emergency communications center serving the Cornelius and Huntersville Police Departments, where her calm demeanor and compassionate nature made her well-suited for helping others during times of crisis. She also worked for Corning's Optical Fiber Plant in Concord, North Carolina, from 1999 until 2002 before returning to Corning in 2011, where she remained until her retirement in 2017.
Above all else, Bonnie will be remembered for the unconditional love she gave so freely, the kindness she extended to everyone she met, and the unwavering devotion she had for her family. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her sons, grandchildren, cherished friends, and all whose lives were made brighter by knowing her. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, 11:00am, at James Funeral Home of Huntersville. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00am prior to the service. Interment will take place following the funeral services at Mission Church Cemetery, 12444 Mission Church Rd., Locust, NC 28097.
