Brenda Cahoon's Obituary
Brenda Flowe Pope Cahoon, 81, passed away Wednesday, November 12 with her loving husband and children by her side.
A native of Charlotte, Brenda was born January 4,1944 to the late Ayer McKee and Daisy Benton Flowe. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bruce Pope, her first born daughter, Glenda Lee Pope, her sister, Phyllis Hord and stepdaughter Kim Farmer.
She was a member of Neighborhood Church in Huntersville, but spent most of her life as a member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church of Mint Hill where she taught Sunday School and shared her love of Jesus. After 30 years in the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system, she retired from Lebanon Road Elementary in 2005 where she was a teacher’s assistant. Her love and passion for her students was showing them how much they were loved and she truly believed each child needed a daily hug.
She was very creative and in her younger years she was always making flower arrangements, painting and decorating the halls of the schools. She had a love for dancing, traveling, and playing the piano, but her greatest joy was her children! She gave so selflessly, loved so deeply and her million dollar smile would light up a room!
Brenda was married to Bruce for 43 years until his death in 2007 and from this union they had three children. Together they spent many years enjoying bowling and fishing! She married Dexter Cahoon in 2008 and enjoyed her retirement traveling the United States, going on cruises and having the time of her life!
She was always gentle, kind, caring, loving and her faith guided her through her life. Mom, throughout our lives your love, grace and strength was like a beacon through the night. We miss you so much but know in heaven you wait.
She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Dexter Cahoon; her son, Tony and his wife Susan, her daughter Carol Holm and her husband Ray, her stepson Wayne Cahoon and his wife Nicki; along with her grandchildren Ashley Brown (Clay), Lauren Nichols (Tim), Marisa Holm and Austin Cahoon; her great grandchildren, Kellen, Chloe, Lincoln and Piper; her beloved companion and lap dog, Benji.
A funeral to celebrate Brenda’s life will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 at James Funeral Home with Pastor Landon Horton officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30am. Service will follow immediately after visitation in the chapel. Interment will follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank Memory Movement of Charlotte for their love and compassion in the understanding of Alzheimer’s disease, and her in-home caregivers, Olga Acosta-Turcios and Sandra Gomez.
James Funeral Home of Huntersville, NC is serving the family.
