Brian Richard Young's Obituary
Brian Richard Young, 34, of Charlotte, NC passed away unexpectedly in the early hours of Wednesday, February 7, 2024.
He is deeply and intensely missed by his wife, Kimberly M. Young, son, Roman R. Young, daughter, Thea J. Young, and soon-to-be born daughter, Coralie E. Young.
Brian was born in Florida then raised in Hillsborough, NC. He was an avid sports fan and grew up playing ice hockey; however, he would speak most fondly about his time playing lacrosse - mostly because he was tired of being goalie. He attended Appalachian State University where he met his wife, Kimberly. They then moved to Nashville, TN where he began a career in purchasing and they started their family. The family then moved to Charlotte in the fall of 2021.
Brian was an amazing man; reliable, trustworthy, honest, and so stubborn. He lived a life driven by his values and principles; his family always knew he loved them and put them first. He had a fantastic sense of humor and liked watching and listening to stand-up comedy. Brian had an uncanny ability to name the capital of any state and country, and was always knowledgeable on current events and sports stats - which made him a great partner at trivia. He enjoyed running on the weekends, vacations (particularly the beach), and was a foodie at heart (especially pizza and BBQ). He made the very best Chicken Parmesan, which he and his loved ones would eat while playing Bocelli. Brian had an 80% chance of falling asleep during any movie. His favorite team was the Carolina Panthers (even though they never won the Super Bowl) and he had a goal to visit every MLB stadium (and probably buy a hat). He was proud of what a great beard he could grow (everyone always told him so) and that he never had a cavity. But in the end, Brian was most proud of being a father - something he truly excelled at.
We reflect on the small moments and will miss them so much: Dance parties in the kitchen; weekend dinners; taking the kids on his weekend runs (and bribing them with popsicles); nightly bath times, then falling asleep putting the kids to bed; board games on weekend mornings while mom slept in; long car rides; museums; and so much more. There is so much grief in our hearts, but also so much gratitude for having had him in our lives and all the memories we made.
Brian was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Leigh Blackwelder, and grandparents, Charles “Dick” and Betty Blackwelder.
He is also survived by his father, Tim Young of Hillsborough, NC; grandmother, Katherine Young of Hillsborough, NC; grandfather, Robert “Bob” Young of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Alison Matthews of Mt. Juliet, TN and her immediate family.
