Burl Jackson Washam's Obituary
Burl Jackson Washam, 86 of Cornelius, NC passed away Friday, November 18, 2022, at Sardis Oaks Nursing Home in Charlotte, NC. He was born on September 15, 1936 in Iredell County and was the son of the late William “Jack” and Odell Fidler Washam.
Burl was in the Army reserves & married the love of his life, Barbara “Bobbie” Jones Washam, in 1958. Burl worked for Allis-Chalmers for many years, using his Agricultural degree from NC State and his love of working the land. Through his time with Allis-Chalmers, he met many wonderful friends he kept in touch with until the end. While he wasn’t a fan of the telephone in the early years, he became “addicted” to it. If he wasn’t asleep, the phone was in his hand. Many people can attest to that by the numerous calls they got from him in a single day. Sometimes at 2 am! Burl also worked at Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home where he worked on the grounds crew, again enjoying the outdoors.
Burl was never one to sit still. He was always working in the garden, fixing something, or running errands. If Bobbie was cooking, he knew he would be making several trips to the store…every time. Burl also loved sports, especially baseball. He watched his son, Brad, play for years & then his grandsons.
Burl is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Bobbie Jones Washam, and his grandson Casey Robert Bates. He is survived by son, Bradley Jackson Washam and wife Cindy of Mt. Holly; daughter, Belinda Washam Bates and husband Robert of Huntersville; and grandchildren, Brandon Bates, Jenna Washam, and Bryce Washam, and his brother Steve Washam and wife Jill.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022, at 11 am at James Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Huntersville Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at funeral home.
